YAMAHA AND TRAVELING GUITAR FOUNDATION

MAKE BEAUTIFUL MUSIC TOGETHER

Company Provides Low-Cost Guitar Kits and Keyboards to

Non-Profit That Donates Instruments to Needy Schools

BUENA PARK, Calif. – Guitarist and songwriter Damon Marks has performed and recorded with many top names in the music business. He also enjoys giving back and is a co-founder of the Traveling Guitar Foundation, based in Scotch Plains, N.J., which provides musical instruments for schools that lack well-developed music programs.

In 2010, Damon performed with R&B recording artist Jermaine Paul, for Alicia Keys “Freedom Tour”. Keys, a Yamaha Keyboard Artist, spoke highly about their relationship with Yamaha and Senior Vice President Rick Young, telling Marks that Yamaha would make a great fit with his foundation.

Since coming to the United States fifty years ago, Yamaha has been a strong supporter of music education and announces that it has developed a working relationship with the Traveling Guitar Foundation, pledging to provide low-cost Gigmaker Electric Guitar kits and digital keyboards that the foundation will donate to worthy schools.

“We are always seeking ways to put instruments into the hands of students because the value of active music-making in a child’s life is incalculable,” said Rick Young, Senior Vice President at the Yamaha Corporation of America.

YAMAHA AND TRAVELING GUITAR FOUNDATION                               2

MAKE BEAUTIFUL MUSIC TOGETHER

Gigmaker Electric Guitar kits include everything a beginner guitarist needs to get started, including a Pacifica PAC012 guitar, an amplifier and a host of other accessories. Yamaha makes a wide range of keyboards that represent the entire spectrum of quality and value for keyboard players at every level of proficiency.

The Traveling Guitar Foundation derives its name from two custom guitars that are constructed each year by foundation co-founder Keith Ballurio of Ballurio Guitars in Manassas, Virginia. These guitars go on tour for a year and are placed in the hands of famous guitarists, who play and sign them. The guitars are auctioned off at the end of the year and the proceeds help the foundation fulfill its mission.

“Yamaha is a legendary company that helps bring strength and expertise to the foundation,” said Marks. “Guitars and keyboards are the two hottest instruments of choice for students and Yamaha makes some of the best guitars and keyboards in the world.”

Thanks to extensive media coverage, Marks’s foundation is functioning as a “well-oiled machine,” he says, and there’s no shortage of schools seeking him out for musical equipment. When he visits a school, he tries to bring along young artists to perform and well-known music personalities to help deliver the message and the goods, including Darryl McDaniels of Run-DMC and music producer and artist Kasseem "SWIZZ BEATZ" Dean to name a few. Sponsoring artists include renowned guitarists Eric Johnson, Bruce Kulick and Steve Lukather.

The new relationship with Yamaha “lets us continue to grow,” said Marks, “so now we can increase our presence and bring the value of music education to a bigger audience.”

EL SEGUNDO, CA, May 3, 2010 - Mogami Cable, a division of Marshall Electronics, is joining the Traveling Guitar Foundation in their mission to bring much needed equipment and funding to music programs financially devastated by budget cuts.

Co-founded by guitarist/recording artist Damon Marks, the Traveling Guitar Foundation works with manufacturers who donate products for use by students in classrooms, as well as unique instruments for fund-raising. Mogami’s contribution to the foundation includes Mogami Gold Instrument cables for guitar/amp kits that will be presented to students at an upcoming charity event. “We want to support young artists and also show them what it’s like to work with really good cable,” says Phil Tennison, Product Manager at Mogami Cable. “The Traveling Guitar Foundation is an outstanding organization and we hope more manufacturers will get involved.”

March 9th, 2010 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: March 9th, 2010

The Traveling Guitar Foundation and Special Guest Darryl “DMC” McDaniels Head Back to School, Donating Ten Guitars to Bayberry Elementary

Manassas, Virginia – March 9th, 2010 – The Traveling Guitar Foundation and Darryl “DMC” McDaniels will be visiting Bayberry Elementary School in the Watchung School District (Watchung , NJ ) on March 18th, 2010.  At the event, the Foundation will be bringing ten new guitar kits (guitar and amps) donated to the Traveling Guitar Foundation by their sponsor, Dean Guitars.  The event is planned for 1 PM* in the Bayberry Schools All Purpose Room with Darryl “DMC” McDaniels scheduled to speak to the school’s future artists.

The Traveling Guitar Foundation was founded with a simple mission to fund music education and programs for those unable to pursue these activities due to limited resources.  Through the generosity of their sponsors and others (artists, companies and friends) committed to music education, the Foundation is raising awareness and funds for music education and programs.

Mary T. Nunn, Bayberry School Principal, stated in an open letter to the Traveling Guitar Foundation, "The Watchung School District would like to thank the founders Damon Marks and Keith Ballurio for considering us for their amazing music education donations. We are honored to be granted this opportunity to represent the Traveling Guitar Foundation.”

Keith Ballurio, co-founder of the Traveling Guitar, said, "We are thrilled to be able to coordinate an event that places guitars and instruments in the hands of the future artists.  Having the support of Dean Guitars and Darryl “DMC” McDaniels at this event is indicative of the caliber of our sponsors and their commitment to music education and awareness.”

Tracey Miller & Associates, Inc. DMC
Darryl McDaniels or “DMC” as most of the world knows him, made his start in the music business as one-third of the groundbreaking rap group Run-DMC and quickly became the most popular in terms of fans and influence. He has been in the public eye for the past twenty-five years, since forming the now legendary group Run-DMC with Joseph (Rev. Run) Simmons and the late, great Jason (Jam Master Jay) Mizell. As one of the founding members of this multi-platinum music group, selling over 30 million singles and albums worldwide, it would be hard to overstate his influence on popular culture. Run-DMC were the first rappers to earn a gold album (for Run-DMC/Profile in 1984), the first to earn a platinum album (for King of Rock/Profile in 1985), the first to go multi-platinum (for Raising Hell/Profile in 1986), the first to have their videos played on MTV, the first to appear on “American Bandstand” and “Saturday Night Live,” and the first rap band to grace the cover of Rolling Stone and Spin. After their last group release (Down with The King/ Profile 1999) Rolling Stone Magazine wrote, “It’s hardly surprising that it’s (Run-DMC) now the first rap group to come back from the dead. This may be its most impressive achievement, given all the hip-hop heroes who’ve gone out like Hoffa.”

After Jay’s untimely death on October 30, 2002, DMC, released his first solo album entitled Checks, Thugs, Rock n Roll featuring the critically acclaimed single “Just Like Me” with Sarah McLaughlin and the poignant tribute to Jam Master Jay entitled “Missing My Friend.” His critically acclaimed story "DMC: My Adoption Journey" the first documentary in the VH1 Rock Docs franchise was awarded a News & Documentary Emmy for Outstanding Arts & Culture Programming in 2007.

In addition to his musical accomplishments, he is a published author. His book “King of Rock: Respect, Responsibility and My Life with Run-DMC” (St. Martins/2001) was written by DMC with Bruce Haring, and with the forward by rapper/actor Will Smith. The book offers a flavorful tale of his rise within the music business while stressing the importance of respect and responsibility in today’s society. It has received rave reviews nationwide. Entertainment Weekly called it “strangely compelling, bravely honest…plenty of entertaining anecdotes about life back in the day to keep you turning the pages. Like Will Smith, McDaniels is a born charmer.”

In between recording, performing and writing, DMC has become an advocate for adoption and foster kids. He is actively involved with the Felix Organization- a nonprofit organization that works with adoptees and foster children. DMC co-founded the organization after finding out, at the age of 35 that he was adopted; his realization that there are kids out there that are stuck in the foster system or in poor situations prompted him to make a difference. He is also a spokesperson for the Children’s Aid & Family Services and the Adoption Institute. He has spoken before Congress and before various State legislatures on behalf of adoption rights. He’s received numerous awards including the Hard Rock’s 2007 Love All Serve All Award for his numerous philanthropic endeavors and was inducted this year, as a member of Run-DMC, into the 2009 Rock n Roll Hall of Fame.

Most recently, Darryl was honored to hear some of his words being spoken by the President of the United States after tuning in to a rebroadcast of the President’s speech at the NAACP 100th Anniversary Convention in NYC. “They might think they’ve got a pretty good jump shot or a pretty good flow, but our kids can’t all aspire to be the next LeBron or Lil Wayne. I want them aspiring to be scientists and engineers, doctors and teachers, not just ballers and rappers,” The President detailed. “I want them aspiring to be a Supreme Court Justice. I want them aspiring to be President of the United States.” These are the same words that DMC has been saying over his thirty year career and more recently to thousands of inner city youth and foster care kids as he's toured the country. In fact, DMC was invited by the President to the White House on June 15th to address various youth groups on responsibility during a Father’s Day celebration after taking part in a DC PSA to promote foster care. It was there that he again touted his familiar lines.

“I’m flattered," says DMC "but I think I said ‘they can’t all aspire to be the next Michael Jordan or JayZ’. But in all seriousness, these words, these ideas aren't really new or belong to any one person. This is what Run-DMC. Public Enemy, KRS-One has been saying since the beginning. This is the essence of what real hip hop is about. To have the President of the United States put it out like that only confirms the impact we've made. Twenty Five years ago we told listeners to become the next hip hop doctors lawyers and Presidents. They now call us Old School. This is proof that Old School is not a time period, it’s a consciousness.”

February 16, 2010 Seymour Duncan Artist Spotlight on Damon Marks

THE TRAVELING GUITAR FOUNDATION
Check it out! One of our long time users and new Seymour Duncan endorser, Damon Marks, is a guitarist as well as co-founder of The Traveling Guitar Foundation. The Foundation has a custom guitar named “The Traveler” that is sent from state to state to major artists in the music industry who sign the guitar, have their pictures taken with it, and then “The Traveler” guitar is auctioned off for charity. All proceeds from the foundation are donated to fund music education programs for children in school systems throughout the USA. In addition to the charitable donation from the auctions, The Traveling Guitar Foundation also directly donates guitars to the schools’ music education classes. Damon has one on one interaction with the kids teaching music theory, explaining the different types of equipment used, and nurtures the vision of how music helps in general. That being said, Damon and The Traveling Guitar Foundation have touched the lives of thousands of kids around the USA.

“I have always been into giving back and helping kids that have had limited resources with music. When I met and started talking to my partner Keith Ballurio, the vision and synergy were completely there. We knew that by forming the Foundation it would help kids out around the country,” says Damon Marks.

OPEN LETTER To The Traveling Guitar Foundation:

WATCHUNG BOROUGH PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Bayberry School

113 Bayberry Lane

Watchung, New Jersey 07069

Our Story

Several years ago, the General Music classroom at Valley View Middle School had become outdated and limited in its resources and student interest. With the gracious help from the Traveling Guitar Foundation, we are able to offer an exciting program inviting students to develop their creativity while fostering important learning in the areas of music history, theory, composition and technique. This wonderful gift will give over 340 students from the 5th grade through the 8th grade an opportunity to experience making music through learning how to play the guitar. From each of these experiences many students will begin taking private guitar and piano lessons. Providing these musical experiences helps to shape good citizenship and promotes continued support of the arts through our children. Supplying these valuable tools invokes musical creativity and keeps our students involved in community events. We recently formed a guitar club that meets weekly after school providing students with an outlet to pursue stronger interests. Through this club, students have the invaluable opportunity to work with other students from various grade levels. A great deal of inspirational learning occurs in this environment. Students choose music together and work towards a concert performance.

Our Goals

Many students have expressed strong interest in playing "electric and bass electric guitars." Our current objectives are to expand our program to include electric guitars and stock necessary items such as strings and required accessories like tuners, effects, and storage units to house equipment. By setting up storage and supply cabinets, we can maintain and service our guitars properly, an area where the Traveling Guitar Foundation will help greatly.

Current trends show that along with a traditional program, we should continue to foster student involvement in the arts by including music and instruments that attract student attention. The guitar whether it be acoustic or electric is the main instrument of choice for middle school aged children.

With the inclusion of both bass and regular electric guitars, we can also enhance concert performances by including drums, bass and electric guitars. Students from the guitar club can accompany the Choral Groups when performing "pop" related material. The one on one interaction between professional and

student from the Traveling Guitar Foundation gives inspiration to the children.

A Realistic Economy

Given the fact that our current economy limits our desired goals and dictates that we maintain only what is necessary to provide students education in the arts, purchasing this equipment and supplies remains only a strong desire toward our future goals. With the help of donations and supplies from The Traveling Guitar Foundation, we will realize these goals.

The Watchung School District would like to thank the founders Damon Marks and Keith Ballurio for considering us for their amazing music education donations. We are honored to be granted this opportunity to represent the Traveling Guitar Foundation.

D'ADDARIO GOES ON THE ROAD WITH THE TRAVELING GUITAR

MANASSAS, VA - August 27, 2009 - Being on the road without great strings and accessories is like performing naked, D'Addario, the new sponsor for the Traveling Guitar Project, is ensuring that all Traveling Guitars wear nothing but the best.

Annually, the Traveling Guitar Project, sends two custom-built guitars on a journey from artist to artist, state to state, collecting stage time and autographs. At the end of their journey, the guitars are auctioned with 100 percent of the proceeds going to support music programs. These guitars will now go on the road dressed in the finest - D'Addario strings and accessories. Keith Ballurio, founder of the Traveling Guitar, said, "We are thrilled with the addition of D'Addario as a sponsor of the Traveling Guitar. The quality of their products and their company commitment to giving back and supporting charitable projects make them a perfect fit for our organization."

Angela Magliocca, D'Addario & Company, Inc. added that, "Making music isn't a hobby. It's a condition. Like eye color, male-pattern baldness, and your penchant for Franklin Mint figurines, music is something you can't help. Making it is part of your genetic code. It's part of ours, too. Over three centuries ago in the Italian village of Salle, a small group of D'Addario's (da-dairy-ohs) sat around trying to figure out how to make musical strings out of sheep guts. Today, their descendants are running the largest musical string company in the world, churning out over 400,000 strings per day, making D'Addario "The First Choice" - and don't even get us started on the other cool music accessories from Planet Waves. All the straps, cables, and other tools you need to be the rock star you always knew you were. D'Addario's donation of strings, straps, tuners, gadgets and gizmos to Ballurio Guitar's Traveling Guitar Project proves D'Addario's appreciation for and commitment to spreading the love of music."

About D'Addario
D'Addario & Company, Inc. (www.daddario.com) designs, manufactures, and markets complete lines of strings for fretted and bowed musical instruments, drumheads, drum practice pads, and guitar and woodwind accessories under the proprietary brand names D'Addario, Evans Drumheads, Planet Waves, Rico, HQ Percussion and PureSound Percussion. The company also runs the popular Gbase.com online gear source. D'Addario products are marketed in approximately 120 countries.
